A top the remains of an ancient hill-fort, Jakob Lamberg built a castle and farm in the 16th century and named it Waissenstain (‘white stone’), which the local people reinterpreted as Boštanj. The castle changed hands many times and was burned down during the Second World War.

After the second world war the castle was unfortunately burned, and its owners moved to Austria.
